Skullward is a 3D pixelated dungeon crawler, kind of a twist on the usual 2D top down ones.
I wanted to make a cute arcadey game, with powerups that focus more on mechanics rather than just stats(but i haven't added those yet) I love roguelikes and always wanted to build one, so I just started building one and added whatever came to my mind and seemed fun.
I built this game during the two months leading up to HackClub Shiba, a teenager hackathon where we made our own game over the 2 months and showcased it at a handmade arcade in Tokyo, Japan with our own physical arcade cabinet. We also got great feedback from people playing our games and we used it to improve our games
btw the game should be very performant as it can run on a Raspberry Pi
- I learned a lot about what goes in making a good roguelike
- Optimizing performance for low-power hardware like Raspberry Pi
- Iterating based on player feedback
- Importance of sharing and tracking progress
- learned a lot about godot
- add more spells that the mage can cast that focuses more on mechanics than just visuals
- maybe a mod system so the player can make there own spell but idk how it will change the pacing as i dont want the player to be only in the menues so it will be like how it is in Far Gone Frontier
