Serial Request is a library on top of RXTX for making Java like interfaces to hardware on the other end of a serial port.
I've used this to help with making my home automation servers connect to irragation controller (Rain8) and my TV (Sharp Aquos).

About

A framework on top of RXTX to support sending commands and parsing responses without having to handle I/O stream directly
