This page defines how XeCLI documentation should be structured and maintained.
The wiki should read like engineering documentation, not release marketing.
Documentation should be:
- specific
- copy-paste friendly
- honest about prerequisites and limitations
- organized by workflow and subsystem
- consistent with the live
rghcommand surface - maintained in Markdown as the canonical GitHub wiki source
Home.md must act as a documentation index, not a wall of prose.
It should contain:
- grouped page navigation
- reading paths for operators, reverse engineers, and contributors
- a capability summary
- clear scope boundaries
Command documentation must include:
- the command name
- what it does
- the important options
- one or more realistic examples
- warnings when the command can destabilize the console or modify state
CLI-Help.md should capture the actual built-in help output from the current shipped binary.
It must be updated whenever:
- top-level commands change
- help descriptions change
- aliases are added or removed
- example lines in the command app are changed
These pages should explain:
- how the CLI is structured
- how the transport layers fit together
- what is and is not guaranteed
- where persistent state is stored
Releases.md is the canonical public release-history and current-highlights page.
Do not maintain separate "latest features" or version-specific release-note pages in the wiki when the same information belongs on Releases.md.
- Prefer exact technical wording over broad language.
- Do not claim a feature works if it was not verified.
- Do not hide dangerous behavior under vague names.
- Prefer direct statements like
requires XBDMoruses FTP.
- Use
rghin examples, not non-release executable paths. - Keep examples realistic and copy-paste ready.
- Use placeholder values only when they are truly environment-specific.
- Prefer repository-relative paths in docs about the repo.
- Prefer Windows-style console paths where that matches the real console workflow.
- Use
XeCLIfor the project andrghfor the command. - Treat
wiki/*.mdas the maintained source for the GitHub wiki. - GitHub wiki pages are the only supported public wiki surface.
- Do not introduce parallel
.htmlwiki pages, generated wiki sites, or GitHub Pages-style wiki mirrors.
Update all of:
README.mdwiki/Commands.mdwiki/CLI-Help.md- any affected workflow page
-
wiki/Releases.mdwhen the change is release-relevant
Add or update:
- an entry from
Home.md - the relevant command reference section
- architecture notes in
Frameworks.md - integration notes if the feature is reusable by external tools
Patch notes should include:
- shipped features
- important fixes
- behavior changes that matter to operators
- compatibility or requirement changes
Patch notes should not include:
- README-only edits
- wiki-only edits
- wording cleanup
- formatting cleanup
- contribution-process housekeeping
- Do not mention drafting tools or content-generation workflows in docs, patch notes, release text, or commit messages.
- Keep release notes focused on what shipped and why it matters.
- Prefer precise technical wording over implementation narrative.
- Never commit debug captures, dumps, packet captures, crash dumps, or machine-specific temp files unless they are explicitly sanitized and intentionally tracked.
- Review staged changes for personal identifiers, machine-specific paths, IPs, serials, console IDs, XUIDs, or gamertags before commit.
State the blocker clearly.
Examples:
- console-side plugin missing
- XBDM service unavailable
- Ghidra not installed
- README screenshots match the current shipped build
- release zip exists and is attached to the current release
- wiki links in README resolve
- GitHub wiki pages resolve and the sidebar reflects the current page set
- release links point to
Releases.md, not deleted version-specific pages - command reference matches the live binary
- source repo does not contain dumps, screenshots from testing, or build output except intended repo assets
