Problem with window top bar

Hello Notepad3-Team,

In the latest version 6.26.314 beta, a problem has occurred that has never been seen before:

The top bar of the window is only visible in a very narrow way, and the buttons in the upper right corner of this bar (minimize, maximize, close) are missing. I've attached a screenshot.

Therefore, I always have to close the program via the menu.

Could you please look into this?

I presume you mean the latest version "Notepad3 7.26.314.1 beta".
Very strange, this behaviour, to be investigated... 🤔

Could you please, post here (Ctrl+v), the version info: Help -> About... -> Copy text.

• Process is not elevated
• User is in Admin-Group.
• Locale -> de-DE (CP:'ANSI (CP-1252)')
• Current Encoding -> 'Unicode (UTF-8)'
• Screen-Resolution -> 1920 x 1200 [pix]
• Display-DPI -> 120 x 120 (Scale: 125%).
• Rendering-Technology -> 'DIRECT-WRITE'
• Zoom -> 100%.
• Current Lexer -> 'Text Files'

The described error with the almost invisible top header only occurs with this version and not with any other program.
Therefore, it must be something to do with the current version of Notepad 3 itself.

If you have a solution, I would be very grateful.

unfortunately, I am not able to reproduce this issue. Please provide also your Notepad3.ini file (remove personal informations like file path history, etc. - if you concern about).

Thank you for your reply. While selecting the Notepad3.ini file, I noticed by chance that it's almost empty. Last time, it was significantly longer. I didn't edit it manually. What happened? Could this be the cause of the problem – and how do I restore the Notepad3.ini file to its correct state?

I'm attaching the file, but I had to change the extension for GitHib to accept it.

I'm abroad until the end of March, so I'll answer from memory.

Notepad3 Portable: the Notepad3.ini and the other .ini files are located in the same directory with Notepad3.exe.

Notepad3 PortableApps (PAF): all .ini files are redirected in a PAF directory: "Settings\Data"

Notepad3 Setup (Installer): all .ini files are redirected in a user directory: %APPDATA%\Rizonesoft\Notepad3\

You can easily access this user directory from the Windows "Execute/Run" dialog box (Ctrl+R) by typing %APPDATA%\Rizonesoft\Notepad3.

Now, how do I restore the Notepad3.ini file to its correct state?
The simple and easily way is reinstall the latest Notepad3 Setup (beta) version over previous version with the first option selected (checked).
This option is called "Replace all configuration files and the themes files".

On the first launch of Notepad3 and from Notepad3 the launch of Minipath and grepWinNP3, the 3 ini files in the user directory are updated.

Thank you so much for the quick reply and the information that the Notepad3.ini file was no longer located in the program directory, but in a separate user directory.

Then, as you recommended, I reinstalled Notepad3 using the "Replace all configuration files and themes files" option. The problem with the small title bar is now gone; everything is working perfectly again.
