          <p>We're a software development company who
          serves <strong>leftist and independent media
          companies</strong>. We're dedicated to building quality
          software to help expand the breadth of discourse, culture,
          and thought available to English-speaking audiences. We also
          look for opportunities to grow our collective skill sets
          for <strong>unique and creative projects</strong>.</p>

           <p>We're equally dedicated providing a <strong>great working
            environment</strong>. We believe that developers do their best work
            when they have more time off than the traditional American
            job allows, and encourage everyone to work about 30-35
            hours per week. We like what we do, but we recognize that
            it is work, <a target="_blank"
            href="https://www.jacobinmag.com/2014/01/in-the-name-of-love/">not
            an act of love</a>.

          <p>We’re a small team based in a beautiful open office space
          in Brooklyn, New York, that is also a venue for radical
          activity in the city.</p>

          <h3>Who we're looking for</h3>

          <p>We're looking for a <strong>web developer</strong> who is
          excited by what we do to join our team onsite at our office
          in Brooklyn.</p>

          <p>We work collaboratively - pair programming regularly -
            and <strong>mentorship of apprentice developers</strong>
            is a key part of our work. We work through various stages
            of backend development - from meeting with clients to
            figure out requirements on new projects to working on
            existing "legacy" codebases.</p>

          <p>Currently, we have two main products/projects, both of
            which evolved out of custom software. One is an online
            <strong>independent bookstore platform</strong> that was
            originally developed for Verso Books and is now being
            adapted for other independent publishers. It's a Rails
            application running on AWS.</p>

          <p>The other product is a magazine platform that was
            originally developed for Jacobin magazine but is in the
            process of being adapted for other publications. It's made
            up of a Wordpress site for content authorship and a
            <strong>Haskell backend for
            subscription/fulfillment.</strong></p>

          <p>We hope you'd be excited to work on these and other
            projects. Both Jacobin and Verso have said these platforms
            are a big part of their recent success, and this type of
            development and adaptation is the main focus of Position
            Development.</p>
