environments without rustup

I'm trying to use openvm in a build environment that doesn't use rustup (nixos). is there any way to make this work? As far as I can tell, rustup is a hard requirement for running any of the build commands.

Does your nixos still allow rustc or cargo?
The openvm build commands just wrap cargo commands, so you could directly build without it.

If you can post what exactly is failing, then we can figure out a fix
