Question: steam link selects weird resolution

Thanks for the libreelec v12 update! All seems to work without issue! No tinkering, it just works.

I hasten to add that the following is a question, not an issue with this plugin.

I have a regular 4k tv connected to a raspberry pi 4. Upon starting steam link through this plugin steam link changes the resolution to 4096x2160, instead of the expected 3840x2160, leading to all kinds of weird graphical glitches. Mainly the whole screen being flattened horizontally a bit.

It seems to me that steam link finds the largest resolution supported by the tv and selects that. All streaming is normal 1920x1080, which is fine. It's just that the tv renders this as 4096x2160 which looks all kinds of awfull.

Is there any way to get steam link to basically not do this? Any suggestions?

This plugin uses Steamlink, written and maintained by Valve.

There's no official way to force a resolution within the Steamlink software that I'm aware of, and from what I've read online, Steamlink just picks the highest resolution available from the connetion.

As Steamlink is built apon the QT, it might be possible using the following, with the caveat that this has not been tested and will likely need some experimentation to get working.

If you have the free time and know-how, feel free to experiment with the following.

Qt for Embedded Linux - EGLFS with the eglfs_kms backend - Custom configuration

Create the following files:

1. ~/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/plugin.program.steamlink/data/display.conf

2. ~/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/plugin.program.steamlink/data/.env

QT_QPA_EGLFS_KMS_CONFIG=/data/display.conf

In theory, this should do the following:

• Load the /data/.env file on start-up (reference link to source)
• Set the QT_QPA_EGLFS_KMS_CONFIG environment variable pointing to display.conf
• Apon loading Steamlink, QT should read the environment variable and load display.conf

To roll-back the changes, simply remove the two created files and it should revert back to the original behavior
