Feature request: allow alternative code to be inserted anywhere without a selection

Currently, you must select code in order to insert alternative code. This means you cannot select blank lines where you may wish to place alternative code. It would be nice to be able to say "Insert alternative code here" rather than "replace this code with alternative code".
