upgrade cert-manager

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

The version of cert-manager deployed currently appears to be hardcoded in the educates codebases and is currently using v1.14.7 which almost is 2 years old now with the latest version v20.0.0 just released yesterday.

There are some bugs in the current version used and it would be nice to not have to manually try to upgrade cert-manager after an educates install.

Cert-manager to be upgraded for default and potentially ability to specify the cert-manager version.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Manually upgrading cert-manager with post installation patches/scripts afterwards.

We will upgrade cert-manager for the upcoming 4.0 release of Educates, to the latest most stable version by then. But in the meantime, if you need to support any other version of cert-manager, it should be as easy as disabling the educates provided installation of cert-manager and deploy it yourself, with whatever configuration should be required.
The same applies to any other side component to Educates (contour, kyverno,...), which is the only thing we do develop and support 100%.

It would be nice to know which specific cert-manager issues are affecting you, so that when we upgrade, we do to a version that fixes these issues.

Also, version 4.0 of educates will provide an easy way to overlay changes to the installed resources at install time, so to allow to customize some specific things, like the image version of a specific component.

Yes understood, but after discovering this, wanted to file the enhancement/feedback.

At first I thought it was related to cert-manager and then realized it appeared to be due to an educates ytt overlay.

Also, version 4.0 of educates will provide an easy way to overlay changes to the installed resources at install time, so to allow to customize some specific things, like the image version of a specific component.

That might be helpful, but I think it's also important keep the version educates ships with.
