Need Help with Getting Started with Eclipse CDO

Hi everyone,

Sorry to bother you — I'm new to Eclipse development. Recently, I've been trying to learn about the Eclipse CDO Model Repository, but I'm having trouble finding a quick start guide or beginner tutorial. Many of the links on the official page https://wiki.eclipse.org/CDO/ are broken or outdated.

Could anyone point me to up-to-date resources or provide some guidance on how to get started with CDO?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think that the wiki still is the best development resource on the web. The unit tests are also a valuable resource. CDO is quite big so it would really help to know which problems you will try to solve with the help of CDO.

Thank you for your response. What I want to do is store Capella models in a CDO repository in order to enable online collaboration. Based on the information I have found, should I follow these steps:

Download the CDO source code and compile it into installation packages for different platforms and operating systems (I am developing on Windows, but deployment is usually done on Linux);
Install the CDO client plugin in Capella;
Implement the calling of CDO APIs in the code to upload or check out Capella models.
Let me know if this is the correct approach or if there are any additional considerations or best practices I should be aware of.

Sorry, I have no experiance at all with Capella so I cannot help you there. Looking at their source code, it looks like they allready have support for CDO, so my guess is that you would need to start with settings up a CDO server.

My guess is that you do not need to download the CDO source code, using the binaries provided by the project via the updatesite is probably sufficent. Possibly from this one: https://download.eclipse.org/modeling/emf/cdo/drops/R20250305-0750/

The support if CDO in Capella is targeting the compatibility with Team for Capella [1] a commercial add-on allowing users to collaborate on remotely shared models and representations:

• All changes on the models and representations are automatically propagated across all users’ views.
• Only the necessary objects are automatically locked and released. On-demand locks can also be created.
• Data is stored in a shared server hosting the whole models with their representations.

The collaboration features proposed in Team for Capella are based on a customized version of CDO.

In Capella source code / repository, you will mainly find mock plugins/feature to allow Capella Studio [2][3] to produce extensions/add-ons to Capella with compatibility layer for Team for Capella (.cdo plugins will contains CDO native alternate implementation of the Capella meta-model extension). The concrete Capella .cdo plugins are provided by the commercial add-on.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I propose you talk about that with the webmasters, because they're the only ones that could possibly help. I imagine you'd have to be a bit more specific on the kind of difficulties and on the kind of Eclipse resources. I just found quite a few CDO tutorial videos on YouTube when you search for eclipse cdo model repository. Perhaps one of them is of interest for you.
