Problem with special characters?

What steps will reproduce the problem?

I'm using rhytmbox to put the current song title into compa:
rhythmbox-client --no-start --print-playing

However it seems to just not update when a title comes with a special character 
comes along:

"Rush - Between Sun & Moon" for example.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Compa shows the last song played, doesn't update till a song change.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Ubuntu 10.10

I ended up just making my command into a script and use sed to filter out the 
offending characters:

rhythmbox-client --no-start --print-playing-format "%st%aa - %tt #%tn %at 
%te/%td" | sed 's/\&/and/g'
