Maybe I found a simple solution you like in #181. What is your plan, if we find a working solution? Default behavior? Keeping the J key function? Add an option?

I think default behavior is the ideal to strive for. If it feels like it has merit in a lot of situations but is detrimental in some cases I would want to make it optional.
