Randomly rotates back to the display's native orientation

Thanks for writing this! It almost works on a Piccolo 8 N305. With this running, the display does rotate when putting it into tablet mode. However, it almost immediately rotates back to the display's native resolution. Rotating the device makes it rotate back, however, it again almost immediately returns to the display's native orientation. When leaving tablet mode, it also rotates to the display's native resolution and I need to go to settings and manually rotate it left so that it is normal again.

Which desktop environment are you on? I own different hardware now and no longer need this program, but I have also been having issues with auto-rotation on Gnome (with my current hardware). Installing this extension, which replaces the built-in rotation logic, helped.

Yes, I'm on GNOME. I tried this extension, but unfortunately it changed absolutely nothing :(

Try running monitor-sensor and see if the detected orientation is correct. That's the value that Mutter uses. All this program does is enable tablet mode so that Mutter enables its rotation logic.

I see, in that case it's probably unrelated to your tablet-mode-accel. I'll have a look at monitor-sensor.

On a different note, since you seem to have had this device on Linux: I have extremely terrible WiFi. Every WiFi only shows one bar or at maximum 2. If I put my phone into hotspot mode, it sometimes shows all bars if it is directly next to it, but even that is not guaranteed. And if I move my Piccolo just half a meter from my phone, the connection drops entirely and doesn't even show up in the list anymore. Was this the same for you, or do I have a defective device? Sorry for the off-topic, but asking since I'm still within the return window.

I never had any problems with the Wi-Fi. Sounds like the antenna might be disconnected from your card? It should be easy to open up the case and check--it's all screws.

I fixed the WiFi by just pressing very hard on the plastic cover on top of the antenna connectors.

I've also managed to fix the default orientation by adding the following to the kernel cmdline:

video=DSI-1:1920x1200,panel_orientation=right_side_up

However, with that, in tablet mode, rotation is no longer random - it is now always rotated by 90°. Unfortunately, that is even true when leaving tablet mode, and the screen remains rotated wrong.

I understand that tablet-mode-accel only emits the events - but would it be possible for it to also tell Mutter the correct orientation of the device?
