Poor D2D rendering.

First option: old SynEdit for Delphi 7
Second option: Delphi 12 TurboPack
The letter S looks particularly rough. And overall, D2D appears more jagged and unpleasant.
Is there any way to fix this?

DWrite text quality is supposed to be better than GDI. See https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/directwrite/introducing-directwrite, although nowadays I think they both use the same engine.

Are you using FontQuality TFontQuality.fqClearTypeNatural, which is the default? If not try that.

The text quality looks good to me. But can you try the following. Comment out the line:

SingletonRenderTarget.SetTextAntialiasMode(D2D1_TEXT_ANTIALIAS_MODE_CLEARTYPE);

in TSynDWrite.RenderTarge.

Is what get better?

If I comment out SingletonRenderTarget.SetTextAntialiasMode(D2D1_TEXT_ANTIALIAS_MODE_CLEARTYPE), it becomes worse. Actually, that's how it should be.

If I'm not confusing things, the issue is most likely with DWRITE_MEASURING_MODE_GDI_NATURAL, but it can only be set for:

When you draw with a TextLayout the measurement mode is set here:

Did you set the font quality property of SynEdit (not the Font.Quality) to fqClearTypeNatural?

Which font are you using? Which Windows version? Here the quality is perfect and nobody complained about the text quality.

The picture above is with Cascadia Code 16pt. You can try and see whether it makes a difference. Can you post here a picture with code to see what it looks like?

By the way I am using the pyscripter fork, but it probably makes no difference.

First Delphi7 second Delphi 12 Turbo. I might be too strict, but clearly GDI has smoother outlines. It's certainly acceptable, but the new code shouldn't be worse! Otherwise, what's the point of all this?

Wow what a spec! Is this for gaming or AI stuff?
But Win12 does not exist yet.

Please do me a favor. Download PyScripter from https://sourceforge.net/projects/pyscripter/files/PyScripter-v5.2/ and compare the text quality with what you get.

If it the same as what you get, then it is something to do with the specific machine (driver issue, ClearType settings). If the PyScripter text quality is better then it could be due to differences in the repo, Delphi versions, or some component properties.

In my high DPI laptop 3840x2400 the quality is even better:

It just occured to me. Is your project DPI aware?
And are you using the recommended windows DPI scaling and resolution?
