It depends of course on the player's situation and how "serious" this game should feel.
If it were to be super serious, I would love some real instruments and some doom-metal-y and folky tunes. We could probably get a slow doom layer underneath and layer up special music for events like attacks or you being chased etc.
But we could also go the route of castlevania-esque for happier tunes but still in theme, or ghouls n ghosts -esque for a more gloomy feel.
Whether I could actually compose something like that with midi, I doubt it, but we could try.
Though ghouls n ghosts kind of things could probably be morphed into something with just bass and guitar and maybe a gloomy organ keyboard underneath?
