Installation on Ubuntu 25.10

TL;TR: Has anyone experienced no sound with v0.3.1 on Ubuntu 25.10?

Here is what I did:

1. I downloaded the latest release, unpacked.
2. I also followed https://polymeilex.github.io/Neothesia/pages/installation.html#how-to-run and downloaded the default.sf2, and placed it next to the neothesia executable.
3. I launched Neothesia and opened a one of Mozart .midi file from http://piano-midi.de
4. I hit play and the keys visualisation flows, but no sound.

Am I missing anything? fluidsynth?

The timidity can play the .midi files fine. Interestingly, I cannot make aplaymidi get to work though.

Try Settings -> Output -> Buildin Synth:

If this does not work, also select the downloaded soundfont file:

The Buildin Synth was already selected, seems to be the default.
But explicit loading of the SoundFont did the trick!

Ok I get what's going on, my FAQ is outdated, the proper location for the default.sf2 file on Linux is ~/.config/neothesia. Not that it matters much, just selecting it is probably easier anyway.

I'm happy to confirm that is the correct location indeed.

I've just tried this:

rm -rf ~/.config/neothesia
mkdir ~/.config/neothesia
mv ~/Downloads/default.sf2 ~/.config/neothesia
~/Downloads/neothesia-ubuntu/neothesia

loaded a .midi file and played it with sound flowing from my headphones :)
