Notification/quick setting pane?

I think it would be awesome to put a manual gain slider and possibly mic input display in the navigation pane. (Another idea would be a toggle between manual and auto mode, and when auto mode is active, three buttons so you could toggle between Near/Far, Dark/Pure/Bright, Quiet/Medium/Loud)

Also, does this require fundamental changes to how the app functions? Would it need to be converted to a service? Create a lock so the USB connection is never dropped? Always persist permissions and then only connect briefly when a setting changed is requested?
