Simplification of borders for countries in division_area

I have been downloading country polygons from Overture maps where the subtype == 'country' andis_land == True. The data I am receiving borders that are extremely simplified compared to the county or other subtypes. These borders are also much more simplified than the ocean polygon I am downloading.

Here is an example of the output for the country polygon for the US in NYC.

Is this a bug in the output, or is OvertureMaps specifically simplifying the coastlines when downloading countries from division_area?

Thanks for the issue Clare Trainor Farley (@ClareTrainor). Currently, Overture does simplify these country boundaries as a compromise between quality and performance. There are no concrete plans to adjust this simplification, but we can keep this issue open to track any future adjustments made to that process.
