What is the current status of hugo?

I was just wondering: what is the current status of hugo as an open source project? I'm asking this because I can see a lot of issues still opened, some opened PRs, last code base change in master was 3y ago...

Recently, i use asm and tranform api to develop a similar plugin, and it has some advantages over hugo, you can have a try
