HIPRTC kernel compilation failing when the Developer Panel is open. #71

System: Windows 11
API: HIP + HIPRTC
GPU: 7900XTX
ROCm 7.1.1 from here
Developer Panel 2026-02-02-1757 for profiling HIP kernels

My application uses HIPRTC to compile kernels at runtime. With the developer panel application open however, kernel compilation seems to be segfaulting somewhere in amdhip64_7.dll

This issue also happened in the past with the Developer Panel 2025-10-29-1732 so this is not exactly new, but it seems to have gotten worse (with the update to ROCm 7.1.1 I think) to the point where I cannot profile my applications at all because kernel compilation always fails.

I am able to reproduce this issue with the HIPRT repo, not just with my application.

  • Follow the Cloning and Building steps of the HIPRT repo
  • Open the Visual Studio solution
  • Open the developer panel application
  • Build and run the unittest project of the HIPRT solution
  • The main thread segfaults in orortcCompileProgram

Any ideas what could be a fix for this?
