Boots to a color palette and stops

Hi, I'm trying to get a version of raspbian working on the Slice. However, once I do step 4 in "Installing Raspbian" (The latest BCM270x firmware is required, grab start.elf and bcm2708-rpi-cm.dtb from the /boot folder in https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/ and copy them to the Slice boot partition.) and reboot the box, it hangs on a color palette.

Is this a common issue, or am I missing a step? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

If it's getting to the splash screen this normally means it is failing to read the kernel.img from the disk... I assume you've copied that over already? Might need to update those instructions in the next week to see if I can be a bit clearer... Might be worth copying the start.elf and dt-blob.bin from the standard Slice install to check...

I assume you also have:

dtoverlay=slice
dtoverlay=ws2812
dtoverlay=mmc

Added to the config.txt OK?

Thank you for your quick response.

After "dtoverlay=slice" I added:

dtoverlay=ws2812
dtoverlay=mmc

to the config.txt, but the machine still doesn't boot and still hangs at the color palette. I created an image of the disk before copying over the kernel.img, so I'm flashing back to that point now.

Also a worth while note in the instructions might be to do all of the kernel compiling from a different board, because as soon as raspbian is flashed to the CM and booted from Slice, the USB and ethernet ports no longer work.
